A guide to an immersive ‘Game of Thrones’ S8 viewing party

Nothing gets me more excited than a new season of Game of Thrones. Now I feel it 10 times more because, after two years of waiting, the final season is premiering tomorrow. Ready your bets on who will sit on the Iron Throne, I feel like this is going to be an emotional ride.

More importantly, you have to prepare yourself for one of the biggest TV premieres this year. Here’s our suggestions before your respective viewing parties. Share this with anyone who needs it.

Watch a quick recap

Obviously, not everyone has the time to rewatch all seven seasons which have episodes that are at least an hour long. Get yourself up to speed with everything that’s happened so far with Screen Junkies’ recap. They condensed all the important parts in a 50-minute video, including who killed who and where the main characters are at the end of season 7. You can also jot down notes if you want to go back on some details.

For the theory buffs

There are some people—including myself—who like reading and watching theories about the final season. These mostly include educated guesses on who will sit on the Iron Throne. Some also talk about whether the White Walkers will win the battle.

If you want interesting takes on the topics mentioned above, listen to movie podcast Filmhaus and watch Wisecrack’s video.

Learn High Valyrian

If you’re on Team Daenerys, you can show your love for the Mother of Dragons by learning her native language, High Valyrian. Duolingo recently announced that they added the fictional language in their lineup. The app makes it easier to learn because of its game-like lessons. You just need a day to brush up on basic words and phrases, and you can continue anytime you want.

Get creative with the snacks

Aside from the usual popcorn and chips, you can serve snacks inspired by GOT characters and locations. Like shaved ice to symbolize the Starks and/or White Walkers, “deviled dragon eggs” for the Targaryens—you get the idea.

Bust out the drinks

We know GOT is premiering early in the morning (9 a.m. to be exact), but a little day drinking doesn’t hurt. Johnnie Walker has a White Walker-themed liquor, and they have a refreshing drink recipe you can try at home. It’s called the White Walker Highball and it has ginger ale or soda, lemon for a little zing, and lots of ice. This is perfect if you’re inviting people over.

Go to the supermarket right now and buy the ingredients you’ll need.

Tell your boss you’re coming in late

This is important, okay? The first episode may be 90 minutes long, meaning it’ll end around 10:30 a.m. Be sure to tell your superior/s that you’re coming by lunchtime. But if you have an important meeting on the same day, you can schedule the viewing party in the evening.

Delete all your social media apps

We know how people would automatically post about their emotions while watching GOT. To save others from reading the spoilers you post, you can temporarily delete your social media apps.

This tip will also apply if you aren’t able to watch the premiere. Avoid spoilers at all costs!
