Sen. Risa Hontiveros is giving out “mom-hugs” at the Pride March

Sen. Risa Hontiveros is one of the well-known allies of the LGBT community. Though the SOGIE Bill failed to pass in this congress, she remains optimistic that the next one will pass the bill into law.

She also announced she will again be a part of the upcoming Pride March on June 29 ”as a mom [and] ally” through a Facebook post. “Will be bringing my mom-friends too!‬” she wrote. Adding, “For those who would want some mom-hugs, please do not hesitate to approach us. You all deserve to feel loved, supported & accepted.”

A lot of LGBTQ+ people, especially those who come from a conservative background, are often rejected by their parents, so this one is a touching initiative by the senator. “Free dad hugs” and “free mom hugs” at Pride Marches in other countries have actually become a thing. Goes to show just how much we still need to do for the LGBTQ+ community. Of course, there’s always plenty of love at the Pride March—which is why we can’t wait. See you there!
