Megan Rapinoe is the most famous woman athlete today. Co-captain of the Reign FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), and playing primarily as a winger, she helped the U.S. win the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments, a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, and finished runners-up at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
She is known for her crafty style of play, her winning goals, and being an advocate of numerous LGBT organizations including the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and Athlete Ally. In 2013, she was awarded the board of directors Award by the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center.
Rapinoe is not only known for her success, but also famous for her unapologetic attitude. In a recent verbal clash between U.S. President Donald Trump, her comment about potentially visiting The White House seemed to have angered the president. She told reporters, “I ain’t going to the f***ing White House.”
Trump was not happy about this comment, for it was said that he was planning on inviting the football captain. He tweets on his account:
Women’s soccer player, @mPinoe, just stated that she is “not going to the F…ing White House if we win.” Other than the NBA, which now refuses to call owners, owners (please explain that I just got Criminal Justice Reform passed, Black unemployment is at the lowest level…

….in our Country’s history, and the poverty index is also best number EVER), leagues and teams love coming to the White House. I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job! We haven’t yet….
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 26, 2019
….invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!

Rapinoe is unfazed by the President’s tweets, and merely goes on with her business. Her brazen personality is stirring up a whole lot of negativity on social media… and of course they come from MEN.
British TV personality Piers Morgan, shows his disdain for the star player on twitter:
Ms Rapinoe sure does love herself. Can’t wait to see our Lionesses dent that stupendous ego. pic.twitter.com/w5FzcnXvGQ

Literally almost all negative reactions about her unapologetic nature is making the male population see red. What gives?
The worst kind of winner. Arrogance, it’s all about her not the team. Asking for respect all summer but gives none. Destroying the good work done for woman’s football. Don’t worry, no one will remember her next month.

Arrogant? Self-absorbed? Cocky? What about boxer Floyd Meyweather who doesn’t shut his mouth about never having lost a match? Or football player Cristiano Ronaldo, who opened up his own museum (and yes, a museum about himself)? Male athletes jump around like wild monkeys when scoring a goal or shooting a 3-pointer. And women can’t do the same?
Wow. Talk about toxic masculinity right there.
The point is, no matter the arrogance and pride that women athletes like Megan possess, what we all know too well is that, with reactions like these, it seems like only the men are allowed to strut their athletic prowess like conquering warriors. When men exert dominance and confidence, it’s cool and hot. But when women do it… it’s vanity? Egotism?
Wow. Seems fair (Note sarcasm).
Social media is rallying behind Megan through the haters and this is how the world should respond to sexist acts such as these:
She hasn’t done anything any male athletes haven’t done in the past. She is celebrating a much deserved win and is allowed to do so. On the surface you may not see that you’re irritated by her because she’s a woman but there’s literally no other reason

She is no different than 90% of the cornerbacks in the NFL. She is an athlete, she can have an edge if she wants.
— Darren Arreola (@darren_arreola) July 17, 2019
Zlatan, Mourinho, Messi, Maradona. Biggest characters in men’s football are mostly arrogant – but that rarely appears to be an issue. Why do you think that is?
— Aaron Bastani (@AaronBastani) July 16, 2019
Any man who feels so completely emasculates by a lesbian who has already accomplished more than he could accomplish in 10 lifetimes has far more issues than Twitter could ever hope to address. Sad.
