The minty sensation: Cooling products that won’t hurt your lips

What’s in a cooling lip product?

If you’ve ever come across one—be it a lip balm or a lipstick, you’ll notice that they mostly have minty ingredients. That instantly tells you’ll feel a cool and sometimes tingly sensation on your lips upon application.

But then, you have lip plumpers too that have the same ingredients and effects. Before you get confused, Bustle explained that most lip plumpers contain menthol or cinnamon that cause an irritating sensation—just a little—that gives you that pouty look.

What makes cooling lip products different is they’re mostly created to soothe chapped and irritated lips. They don’t necessarily give you Kylie Jenner lips for a day, but they do feel great.

If you’re looking for a tube or two for your stash, we’ve listed down some picks for you.

Happy Skin Love Marie Cooling Lip Gloss

Heart Evangelista’s third collaboration with Happy Skin includes six lip colors in three textures and formulas. One of them is a cooling lip gloss in two shades: Missy (mauve) and A Moment (MLBB pink). You can wear this product on its own or as a lipstick topper for added shine. Either way, you’ll feel a subtle tingle every time you apply and re-apply. Available on Zalora PH.

SHE Cosmetics Liquid Cushion Lipstick

Kris Bernal’s beauty brand is known for its cushion matte lipsticks that have bright and vibrant shades. They’re formulated with Bulgarian rose extract, vitamin C, and camelia oil that moisturize and heal the lips from damage. You’ll also feel a cooling sensation thanks to the peppermint oil. Available at SM Megamall.

Hourglass Nº 28™ Lip Treatment Oil

This handy lip treatment from Hourglass contains 28 ingredients that are meant to condition the lips and protect them from outside elements. One of the plant oils infused in the product is eucalyptus, which adds a soothing element. The product also has a 24-karat gold-plated applicator tip (sooo #extra) for additional cooling. Available on Sephora PH.

MAC Cosmetics Grand Illusion Glossy Liquid Lipcolour

Who doesn’t like a shiny lip product with unique shades? This one from MAC will give you just that as it’s made with iridescent pearl shades for a high-dimensional effect. It’s formulated with plant oils like menthyl lactate, which is known for giving a cooling sensation and soothing irritation. This product comes in 21 shades, so have fun choosing which one suits your preferences. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.

Lace & Rue Mint Chocolate Lip Buff

We love a good natural lip scrub like Lace & Rue’s Mint Chocolate Lip Buff. It’s made with brown sugar, cocoa powder, and cinnamon with essential oils peppermint and spearmint for the cooling effect. It sounds like a yummy dessert right off the bat, but cocoa powder is actually a great antioxidant that helps repair skin cells on the lips. Meanwhile, cinnamon is meant to boost blood circulation on the lips. Consider using this before putting on your lipstick. Available on Calyxta.

Yes To Coconut Cooling Lip Oil

If you’re someone who often has dry lips, try this lip oil out. It’s made with coconut oil and olive oil which naturally nourishes and softens your lips, as well as eucalyptus for added moisture and soothing. The brand recommends that you apply this daily to combat chapped lips. Available online.
