The newest celeb to weigh in on PH politics… Cher?

The Goddess of Pop has casted her vote, it looks like

With the May elections looming on the horizon, campaign season is in full swing. And this has ushered in many celebrities to use their platform to weigh in on the elections. Some have been more subtle than others, like Angelica Panganiban making a video about voting wisely without naming who she was voting for. Meanwhile, you have celebs like Toni Gonzaga who literally hosted the Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte unity rally, and her husband Paul Soriano who directed the unity campaign ad.

While we’ve gotten used to the celebrity political endorsements by now, we were still completely floored with the newest star to join the conversation: Cher. Yes, Sonny and Cher, Goddess of Pop, “Do you believe in life after love?” Cher.

Excuse Dont Know Leni

— Cher (@cher) February 16, 2022

“Excuse Don’t Know Leni,” she tweeted today. It’s making me do a double take like Tiffany Pollard did in “Flavor of Love” when a fellow contestant likened herself to Beyonce. Cher???

The tweet seemingly came completely out of left field—and she is known for running an account filled with brilliant non sequiturs—but it looks to be a reply to a fan who had quote tweeted her.

On Feb. 15, the pop icon had tweeted, “If you want it done right, let a woman do it,” which, like, yes, absolutely, ma’am. It was then quote tweeted by a netizen who wrote, “Cher really said #LetLeniLead.” (Cher herself also replied to the tweet, asking, “who is this?”) This seems to be the genus of Cher’s Leni Robredo tweet.

Many fans came to educate Cher on the presidential candidate, the only woman out of 10 in the running. She replied to one of them who called Robredo the next president of the Philippines, tweeting in typical Cher fashion: “Bravo! Let women do it! Let Leni and all women fighting to save the climate, children, elderly, poor, homeless, sick, people of all colors, ethnicities, LGBTQ force honor in gov.”

BRAVO‼️LET WOMEN DO IT‼️LET LENI,& ALL
WOMEN FIGHTING 2 SAVE CLIMATE,CHILDREN, ELDERLY,POOR,HOMELESS,SICK,PPL OF ALL COLORS,ETHNICITIES, LGBTQ.FORCE HONOR IN GOV.MAKE MEDICAL CARE,EDUCATION,
CHILDCARE FREE. TAX CORPORATION,STOP CHILD LABOR.ANIMAL CRUELTY,ETC.#2GETHERWERSTRONG

— Cher (@cher) February 16, 2022

While Robredo herself hasn’t replied to Cher’s tweet (what a world we live in), her spokesperson Barry Gutierrez quote tweeted Cher, saying, “Awesome.”

Awesome. ❤ #LetLeniLead #10RobredoForPresident https://t.co/wpMHWZbq84

There you have it, folks. This feels like the President of Chile defending Taylor Swift from Blur’s Damon Albarn, only in reverse. Did you put any of these words in your 2022 bingo card?
