My mom is a pro at doing her own nails. Growing up, I spent many Saturday afternoons watching TV with her while she trimmed her cuticles, and cut, filed, buffed, and painted her nails. I remember having her buy my own nail kit, complete with nail buffers, toe separators, and nail polish, but I just don’t have her diligence. (The nail kit ended up in her bathroom.)
Sometimes, though, when I see a really great nail design that looks fairly idiot-proof, I feel like changing my attitude towards nail polish. At the House of Holland spring/summer 2015 show, girls sported cute two-toned polish on their nails topped off with glitter.
To get the look, Ayen Santorcas of I Do Nails salon used Orly Ma Cherie, which is a classic red, and Deborah Lippmann Daytripper, which is a light coral, but you can also use a cotton candy pink polish, like Sally Hansen Hard As Nails in Pinch of Punch. From the base of your nail, use Orly Ma Cherie until the middle part of your nail. After letting it dry a little, paint Deborah Lippmann Daytripper until the egde.
Once your initial polish has set, lightly brush a polish that has glitters in it on top, like Zoya Lux.
And then you’re done! That was relatively painless, but if you’re truly lazy, at least it isn’t too difficult for your regular manicurista to pull off.
