Michelle Williams brought the audience to its feet with her powerful Emmy’s acceptance speech.

Up against great performances from Patricia Arquette, Amy Adams, and Aunjanue Ellis, the actress won Outstanding Lead Actress—one of the toughest categories in the Emmy’s—in a limited series or TV movie for her portrayal of Gwen Verdon in FX’s “Fosse/Verdon.”

Michelle took the opportunity to praise her bosses at FX for respecting her as a woman and listening to her needs as a performer.

“I see this as an acknowledgment of what is possible when a woman is trusted to discern her own needs, feel safe enough to voice them, and respected enough that they’ll be heard,” Michelle emotionally expresses on the Emmy’s stage.

She added, “My bosses never presumed to know better than I did about what I needed in order to do my job.”

Michelle fought hard to gain equal pay for her “Fosse/Verdon” part and belives in the power of fair practice. Her speech expressed the value of people in their everyday lives and how treating one another affects how much an individual put into their work.

The actress also spoke about lifting up women of color, which earned her a standing ovation from the whole theater.

“And so the next time a woman—and especially a woman of color, because she tends to make 52 cents on the dollar compared to her white, male counterpart—tells you what she needs in order to do her job, listen to her, believe her.”

We’re for women using their platforms to voice out issues that especially concerns minority. We’re with you, Michelle!
