Versace is done with Fashion Nova’s copycat antics

Don’t mess with Versace. The luxe fashion house won’t hesitate suing you if you make a direct copy of its pieces. Fast fashion brand Fashion Nova is learning that the hard way.

Fashion Nova, a brand notorious for knocking off celebrity outfits at lightning speed, recently allegedly copied Versace’s signature Barocco print and Jennifer Lopez’ green jungle-print dress. (Yes, that iconic Grammys dress from 2000) The latter was recently revamped for Versace’s spring 2020 show during Milan Fashion Week.

Fashion Nova’s version of the J.Lo dress was part of its Halloween collection and it was called the Love Don’t Cost a Thing 2 Piece Costume Set. It features a model wearing a jungle-print dress with a plunging neckline. Not subtle at all.

According to the lawsuit filed last Monday, Nov. 25, Versace’s jungle and Barocco prints are copyrighted, and that Fashion Nova infringed on their designs in four separate occasions this year. The fashion house also notified Fashion Nova between the months of July and November about the alleged knockoffs. However, the brand still continued selling products highly similar to Versace’s.

This isn’t the first time a fast fashion brand was sued for copying fashion houses. Earlier this year, Kim Kardashian won a $2.7 million lawsuit against Missguided for selling recreations of her vintage designer looks. This came months after she called out fast fashion brands (including Fashion Nova for selling a Thierry Mugler cutout dress duplicate) for knocking off designer pieces before she could even wear them.

Going through old fitting pics & found this gold look that Kanye made for me for my Miami trip last summer (I went w the neon vibes instead) P.S. fast fashion brands, can you please wait until I wear this in real life before you knock it off? 😂 pic.twitter.com/MZiGLmC0yI

If you want to know how fast fashion brands like Fashion Nova produce outfits quickly, you might want to watch the latest episode of “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj.” Because they really do keep up with celebrity trends to make serious coin.
