It’s 2020: Time to clean your workspace

Happy new year! Are you excited to go back to work tomorrow? No? You’re not alone.

On the upside, taking a break during the last few days of 2019 really helped us recharge and prepare ourselves for the 2020 workload. Entering the new year also means letting go of a lot of stuff you don’t need, be it at home or your office desk. Today, we’re focusing on the latter.

We’re all guilty of having too much clutter on our desks. Sure, having an organizer to hold our pens and paperworks helps, but sometimes, they’re just not enough. When you go to the office tomorrow (or whenever your holiday leave ends), you better start throwing out or giving away the following:

Finished paperwork

Do you still have sheets of paper from previous projects and (in our case) press releases from January 2019? Gather them and place them in a recycling bin. You can also reuse the clean side when you need to print something.

Unused notebooks

We know you’re hoarding notebooks because you think they’ll come in handy in the future. But when you’ve had about 10 of them for almost a year, it’s a sign that you either should use them or give them away. Think about it: You’re still filling up three notebooks and your colleagues might need one more than you.

To-do lists from 2019

Do you still have a pile of to-do lists written down on yellow Post-It notes? If you’ve already accomplished these tasks in 2019, you should toss them in the paper pile already. It’s time for you to make new to-do lists for 2020!

Empty paper bags and boxes

The Preen.ph HQ has a lot of these, which is sort of a reminder for ourselves to place them in recycling bins. Of course, it’s still important to keep a couple paper bags just in case.

Dead plant

Seriously, let go of your dead desk succulent. You don’t need a reminder of that one day you forgot to water it.

Whatever you’re not using in your drawers

We don’t know what you’re keeping in your office drawers. But if you’ve kept something and you haven’t used it since the start of 2019 (or even 2018!), it’s time to recycle or even throw them away. Make space for items you’ll actually use in 2020.
