2019 was a huge year for Marvel Studios, especially with the release of “Avengers: Endgame.” But what piqued our attention recently is the fact that there will be more representation in the movies. In a recent interview with New York Film Academy, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hinted that there will be a transgender character for the first time ever in a Marvel movie, which will be released next year.
During the Q&A, one fan asked Feige if there were any plans to bring more LGBTQ characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). “Yes, absolutely yes. Very soon, in a movie we’re shooting right now, yes,” said Feige. The first LGBTQ+ character in the MCU will be Valkyrie from “Thor,” where her storyline as King of Asgard will be fleshed out.
Last year, there have been reports that Marvel was planning to cast a trans woman in “Thor: Love and Thunder” which is set to be released in 2021. However, a full cast list hasn’t been released. We already have some ideas in mind, though. Could it be Sera, a character in the Thor Universe that descends from a group of all-male angels who has transitioned to female? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
