More Studio Ghibli titles are coming to Netflix

Thanks to my anime-loving brother, I’ve grown up watching Studio Ghibli films. Back then, I felt I was too young to truly understand the deeper meaning of each story. But I loved them for their amazing visuals like the mouth-watering food and the intricate sceneries. It’s truly a feast for the eyes.

I’m sure a lot of those who grew up with Ghibli movies like me want to relive their childhood. There are some who even want to show it to their kids. Netflix already has some of the classics like “Spirited Away,” “Princess Mononoke” and “My Neighbor Totoro.” Aside from that, here are some of the upcoming Ghibli releases on the streaming site this Apr. 1:

“Ponyo”

A story about friendship and the beauty of nature, “Ponyo” follows the life of Sosuke as he discovers a new friend in a goldfish, Ponyo. As he promises to protect her, they face the wrath of the sea as it tries to retrieve Ponyo (who has turned into a human at will).

“Howl’s Moving Castle”

Set against the backdrop of a moving castle and scenic worlds, the story is about Sophie, a young woman, cursed to look older by a jealous witch. The curse was cast upon her by the jealous witch for her budding relationship with wizard Howl. Through her determination, she was able to gain back her youth in the end.

“From Up On Poppy Hill”

Set in 1963, this movie follows the love story between Umi and Shun, who both study in the same school and form a bond because of the flags Umi raises each day. Aside from the poem Shun writes about the flags, the pair’s bond strengthens as they try to convince their classmates that the Culture Club building should stay. As they get even closer, they learn more about their roots and parents.

“When Marnie Was There”

This movie follows the story of Anna, an asmathic girl sent to the countryside by her foster parents to get some fresh air. Once she gets there, she comes across an abandoned mansion and meets Marnie (a ghost). They grow fond of each other, with Marnie sharing secrets with Anna. By the end of the summer, Anna eventually learns about her real identity and the story behind her adoption.

“The Wind Rises”

Set during World War 2, “The Wind Rises” is based on the infamous aircraft “Zero” fighter creator Jiro Horikoshi who has always dreamt of becoming an aeronautical engineer but eventually regrets creating “Zero” because of the destruction it has caused.
