Bea Alonzo posted her performance of a self-written piece on IGTV last May 6, following the shutdown of the ABS-CBN franchise. Along with three heart emojis in the color of ABS-CBN’s logo, she captioned it with, “Naisipan kong sumulat kagabi. Para sa dalawang dekada.”
The actress opened the piece by saying that the performance was a letter for her home network. The piece goes, “Hindi man magaling, susubukan parin. Maiparating lang ang nilalaman ng damdamin.” She also explained that her piece is not meant to be taken as a complaint or criticism about anything—she only wanted to share her recollections and experiences working with the network.
Bea Alonzo rose to prominence with her portrayal of Cielo San Carlos in the Philippine primetime TV drama, “It Might Be You”. Her other notable TV roles include Betty La Fea in “I Love Betty La Fea,” Gelai Agustin in “Magkaribal” and Andeng Agoncillo in “A Love to Last.” Since then, she has been a staple in ABS-CBN’s film and TV productions. Last year, the International Film Festival and Awards Macao hailed her as one of Asia’s biggest stars internationally.
In the two and a half minute piece, Alonzo recounted the first few years in her career and how ABS-CBN helped her develop the skills that allowed her to succeed in life. She also highlighted her struggles throughout the years, saying that despite the difficulties, she could always rely on the people in the network to lend her a helping hand.
She also acknowledged how her popular roles like Basha from “One More Chance” and Bobbie from “Four Sisters and a Wedding,” helped her get to know herself better.
She ended her piece with a question about her identity, especially now in turbulent times. While there is a lot that she is unsure of, she did leave us with this: “Isa lang ang alam na siguradong sagot. Isa akong kapamilya. Halos dalawang dekada, kayo ang kasama.”
