While studies have ensured that pregnant women shouldn’t worry about passing COVID-19 to their unborn baby, a Chinese researcher recently found that COVID-19 “persists” in semen and can potentially be sexually transmitted.
According to CNN Health, a study was conducted among 38 male patients treated at the Shanqiu Municipal Hospital back when the pandemic was at its height in China. It is said that 16 percent of them were found to have evidence of the virus in their semen.
“We found that SARS-CoV-2 can be present in the semen of patients with COVID-19, and SARS-CoV-2 may still be detected in the semen of recovering patients,” Diangeng Li of Chinese People’s Liberation Army General Hospital in Beijing shares to CNN. And while there’s no possibility of it being “replicated” in the male reproductive system, the virus may still persist since the immune system can’t fully reach the testes (where it can reside).
Given such data, researchers urge the masses to consider abstaining from sex or prioritizing the use of condoms. And while some of us wouldn’t like the idea of abstaining, there’s also the current condom shortage to consider.
With this, it may be the perfect time to invest on some vibrators. There are some online stores that deliver to your doorstep, if you’re looking for some self-pleasure during the quarantine. There’s also your fingers—but where’s the thrill in that?
