Are you feeling a lil’ morose now that Pride month has ended? I know I am. Just like how it changed everyday life, the ongoing pandemic fundamentally affected Pride, making it a more sobering time than it usually is. Just last week, 20 LGBTQIA+ activists were arrested for holding their own physical Pride March in Mendiola. That meant, at least for me, spending Jun. 29 anxiously waiting for news about our queer siblings in prison.
The party (and protest—Pride is and has always been political!) isn’t over though. Metro Manila Pride just announced that they’ll be holding an online gathering this Saturday, Jul. 4. “One last Pride gathering before we end the season, mga mahal,” they announced on Twitter, adding, “No cuts! Full volume! Pride at full blast! May games at activities pa!”
The online Pride March and watch party (no word yet on what exactly we’ll be watching, tho the registration page does say that we’ll be coming “together one last time to watch our performers, greetings from special guests, and solidarity speakers”) will start at 7 p.m. If you’re interested in joining, you can register here.
