You heard it right, folks: Zendaya is finally an Emmy nominee! The actress was recognized for her powerful performance as the recovering drug addict Rue on HBO’s “Euphoria” and is on her way to becoming the youngest person to win an Emmy for the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series category.
The other nominees for this category include Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Olivia Colman (“The Crown”), Laura Linney (“Ozark”), Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve”) and last year’s winner Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”). If the odds are in Zendaya’s favor, she’ll be breaking Comer’s record of being the youngest to win an Emmy for this category—Zendaya will be 24, two years younger than Comer, by the time the 72nd Emmy Awards are expected to air on Sept. 20.
“I’m honestly speechless, my heart is just overflowing with love and gratitude,” she wrote on her Instagram. “I’m so incredibly honored to work beside the talented people that I get to call family. I am a small piece of a big beautiful puzzle and I’m so proud of all of you.”
Not only this, but the show is also nominated for five other awards: Outstanding Music Supervision, Outstanding Contemporary Costumes, Outstanding Music Composition for a Series, Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics (Original Dramatic Score) and, of course, Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic). This just goes to show that they did not start a glitter makeup revolution for nothing.
