Led by an experienced cast, the new original series “D.P.” (which stands for Deserter Pursuit) follows army private An Jun-ho, played by beloved K-drama cutie Jung Hae-in, who is unexpectedly reassigned as a desertion arrest officer who tracks down AWOL-listed soldiers. His persistence and no rule-bending nature are challenged through the different cases he encounters. Beyond his inner conflict, Jun-ho is caught in the middle of the dynamics between his team–the helpful but at times ill-tempered corporal Han Ho-yeol (“Peninsula’s” Koo Kyo-hwan), his naggy but caring D.P. unit chief Park Beom-gu (“Reply 1994’s” Kim Sung-kyun) and first lieutenant Im Ji-seop (“Sense8’s” Son Suk-ku) whose fixation on results-only rises the tension within the group. All of these coming together is a *chef’s kiss* to an already compelling storyline.
The series will be directed by Han Jun-hee, notable for his debut film “Coin Locker Girl,” which was screened at the 68th Cannes Film Festival’s International Critics’ Week section. He and the author of “Deserter Pursuit” collaborated on the screenplay.
It’s always exciting to see books, mangas and webtoons come to life beyond the page. And with the rarity of webtoons being adapted into shows, much less a K-drama, Netflix’s “D.P.” is one we’ll be waiting eagerly for.
