K-pop soloist Chungha, who recently signed with 88rising last Nov. 26 and was nominated best female artist in yesterday’s 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards, has tested positive for COVID-19. MNH Entertainment, where Chungha is signed up, announced the news today, Dec. 7, according to Soompi.
Chungha recently found out that she had come into contact with a confirmed case and voluntarily got tested. On the morning of December 7, the test results came out positive.
Chungha immediately entered self-quarantine, and is taking the necessary measures as instructed by health authorities.
The agency’s artists and staff who have crossed paths with Chungha have also been tested or will be tested, with follow-up measures to be taken based on test results.
The agency said it will actively cooperate with the government’s health policies and will disinfect its headquarters, perform a general inspection for potential infection, and “do our best to manage all of our artists,” the company posted on Chungha’s fan cafe.
The K-pop artist was in the midst of her much-awaited comeback and had just released “Dream of You,” a single from her upcoming album “Querencia,” on Nov. 27. She was slated to release another single on Dec. 10, and the full album on Jan 4.
“MNH Entertainment has not yet announced how [Chungha’s] comeback plans will change,” says Soompi.
Because of the news, JYP Entertainment has announced that girl group Twice will be taking pre-emptive COVID-19 tests. One of their members, Sana, has been in close contact with Chungha.
The singer is just one of the celebrities who have tested positive for the virus as South Korea experiences a resurgence in COVID-19 cases. The country announced on Dec. 6 that there has been a new high in recorded cases and that it will be implementing “heightened social distancing rules for Seoul and surrounding areas.”
We wish Chungha a speedy recovery!
