I don’t know if anyone feels the same, but I’m still super scared of mizz ’Rona—especially since I live in a household with children and the elderly. But let’s be real: There are just some errands that can’t be done from the comfort and safety of our own homes. And for someone like me who also wants to spend time with friends (in person), it’s nice to have options that don’t involve too much interaction with other people and the open world.
Luckily for us, there have been shops and services that now offer drive-thru services. Although some of them have been around for quite some time, there are still a good number of folk not familiar with this option. Here are some drive-thru shops and services you might appreciate:
Airlines’ COVID-19 testing facilities
If any of your loved ones have asked you to drive them for their pre-flight COVID-19 testing, your safest bet is airline testing facilities since you just have to drive through them. I know what you’re thinking: “But aren’t drive-thru swab testings available in a lot of places?” Yes, but not all of them take into account the urgency of flight requirements like airlines do (especially since they need it for your safety). They also take into account one’s flight schedule, so you won’t have to worry about your loved ones missing their flight.
Drugstores
Medical supplies and first aid kits are a must in every home, and you need to restock them every so often. If you know what to get, you can call a convenient branch of some drugstores for your order so that you can just zoom past the drive-thru window later to pick up your medicine. There’s also some that offer the option to order online for a loved one who can pick up the meds themselves. This is especially convenient for those stuck in another province because of the lockdown but are the breadwinners of the family.
Coffee shops
With coffee shops too cramped to still be risky under general community quarantine, it’s convenient that some coffee establishments have a drive-thru. Just make sure you’re not gonna hold up the line by having your order ready before you pull up.
Drive-in cinemas
In the mood for a movie date with your favorite person? Or do you just want to spend time with someone you’re probably not gonna see for a long time? You can easily plan a movie night by pulling up to one of the new drive-in cinemas. Some malls have recently transformed their open spaces to accommodate movie goers since we’re not gonna have live concerts anytime soon. One mall in Taguig converted their waterway into a paddle-by theater via gondola. There are even some outside the city for those looking for a longer drive.
These days, a car is really handy. It’s made running errands much easier, since taking public transportation increases the likelihood of exposure to COVID-19. What would make it a whole lot easier is having a car you can rely on.
