Are we getting another #JoshLia movie soon?
After Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia’s breakup in 2019, it didn’t seem like we would get any more content involving the tandem. They briefly reunited in February 2021 for the music video of Moira dela Torre’s “Paubaya,” but that was it. Their last full-scale production together was “Block Z.”
Rejoice, JoshLia stans, as the loveteam isn’t quite over yet.
In an interview with Boy Abunda, Barretto revealed that the two will be doing a movie with Black Sheep Productions this year. She didn’t say which outfit it was, which has us wondering. Could it be “Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan,” the adaptation of Bob Ong’s mystery thriller novel which Garcia is already attached to? Or is it an unannounced title—and if so, is it a romance drama, like “Alone/Together” and “Exes Baggage,” which the production studio is most known for?
Whichever the case, it seems as if the two are on good terms. Even if they won’t be working together as a love team (though I’m betting that they will), we’ll still be seeing them together on screen.
“You guys will continue to work with each other, right?” Abunda asked, to which Barretto replied, “Definitely.” She explained that they both know that their chemistry and rapport as actors is strong, which is why “we don’t give up on our tandem.”
Barretto also talked about their friendship and her relationship with Gerald Anderson. “One of the things I really appreciate about him is that he respects Ge. And that says a lot about Josh and how much he’s grown and matured. He respects Ge and that means a lot to me,” she said.
She also said that she touches base with Garcia a lot, asking him, “How are you? May girlfriend ka na ba? Huwag ka munang mag-girlfriend.” She added that she wants him to “enjoy what [he has] now because he’s young and he’s in his prime and he’s a brilliant actor. It’s not the time to be limited right now.”
Meanwhile, it also seems as if Barretto and Anderson are going strong. When Abunda asked what she would say if Anderson asked her to marry him, she replied that she would say yes.
For fans of the couple, it might not come as much of a surprise: Last year on Anderson’s vlog, the actress said she wanted to step back from the limelight to raise a family. She reasoned that she had been so exposed to showbiz since childhood and was looking forward to a “simple life.”
