Dozens of mannequins dressed in psychedelic A-line dresses were what greeted us at Slim’s Fashion & Arts School’s 55th anniversary exhibit. For this event, students were tasked to incorporate their personal yet modern takes on the classic ’60s aesthetic. Not surprisingly, each designer’s piece was a different interpretation representing a different influence prevalent in that decade. While some featured plastic coats, safety pin embellishments, and even tie-dye butterfly sleeves, others were clothed in structured neoprene dresses with eccentric floating boat necklines.
From all the 20 pieces shown, we handpicked 10 designers who stood out from the roster, and asked these could-be big names in fashion about their creations.
