Minutes after Lady Gaga’s all-out tribute performance for the late David Bowie in the 58th Grammy Awards, the tweets of praise and approval started pouring in from celebrities and major publications. However, there seems to be one very important party who was left unimpressed by the performance.
Duncan Jones, David Bowie’s son, sent out this tweet a few hours after Gaga’s tribute:
“overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused.” Damn it! What IS that word!?
— Duncan Jones (@ManMadeMoon) February 16, 2016
The tweet is the formal definition of the word “gaga” and doesn’t read too pretty if taken into the context of how Lady Gaga sang a collection of David’s greatest hits including “Fashion” and “Suffragette City” yesterday.
But given the over-the-top energy and the musical prowess of David, who else could have pulled off the performance (and the Ziggy Stardust look) like Gaga did? The musician has long been a fan of David Bowie, even going as far as thanking him in inspiring her first album The Fame, and getting a tattoo of David’s face with a lightning bolt across his face on her torso.
Still, Duncan might have seen something else that everyone didn’t notice through the visual effects and lights. He hasn’t made any further statements pertaining to the performance nor to his tweet since then, so David Bowie and Lady Gaga fans can just decide for themselves if it was indeed a fitting tribute or an erratic production from a crazed fan.
