5 Powerful Moments From the Women of the Billboard Music Awards 2016

Women are complicated. There are not enough words to describe how complicated we get sometimes. That said, it seems that the recent Billboard Music Awards showed different sides of us ladies with powerful performances from Britney Spears, Madonna, Kesha, and more.

Not only that, these performances can also be a reminder not mess with some of us. Who knows? We might just give the best comeback you never expected.

#1 When people say you’re non-existent
Britney Spears has not been in the mainstream spotlight that much despite having consecutive shows in Las Vegas. It’s also true that she might be struggling to stage a comeback since her last album, Britney Jean, didn’t do so well on the charts. But Britney had something in mind to show everyone that she’s still got it: a medley of her old and new songs.

Yup, she sang favorites like “Toxic” and “Womanizer” while doing flawless dance numbers. So, who’s non-existent now?

#2 Being madly in love
Nothing like showing your love to your beau—whether they know you exist or not—than with a serenade like Rihanna’s “Love On the Brain.”

Also, can we just say that we’re loving her blue-green pantsuit in this performance!

#3 Showing your old flame that you’re okay

Ah, Adele still never fails to give us heart-wrenching songs. For the BBMAs, she released the music video of her single “Send My Love (to Your New Lover),” and her eyebrows and winged liner are so on-point. So if you’ve ever been in a bad breakup and have moved on, you better make sure you look your best like Adele.

#4 When someone tries to silence you
It’s been a tough journey for Kesha. With her case against Dr. Luke and Sony Music still not resolved, including almost not being able to play for the BBMAs, it’s amazing how she’s still figthing And since she was allowed to perform, she sang a cover of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe.”

The performance may not be an upfront protest against the producer, but it showed her being independent of the pop-dance music she usually does. You go, girl!

#5 Showing compassion to an old friend

In memory of pop icon Prince, the queen of pop Madonna and Stevie Wonder dedicated a tribute to him. Prince and Madonna may have had a decades-long feud, but the performance just shows that people can still be friends despite all the drama that’s transpired. Cue the tears.
