The Duterte administration launched a free bimonthly tabloid called Mula sa Masa, Para sa Masa to celebrate Rodrigo Duterte’s 50th day as President yesterday. And by the looks of the headlines, it contains some eyebrow-raising headlines.
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar revealed the first edition during a press conference in Davao City yesterday. These tabloids will report on the administration’s accomplishments, especially in their goal to stop drug abuse. These are also printed for free at the government’s printing press.
The first edition’s front page had the headline “Duterte Wagi sa Giyera Kontra Droga!” (Duterte Wins War Against Drugs!), which is strange since the “win” comes at the price of extra judicial killings. Plus, the war is still ongoing, isn’t it?
Not only that, there’s also an entertainment section that contains blind items on celebrities who are allegedly connected to drug use. Again, another presumptive move from the administration.
It’s still early to say whether or not this is a good idea coming from the government. But by the looks of the first headline and the blind item stories (here’s a sneak peek), you can tell that this’ll churn out interesting (open for interpretation) stories in the future.
