The MTV Video Music Awards has been known for fun, sometimes over the top outfits. Remember Miley Cyrus’ wild getups last year? Well, this year we saw more tamed looks but still maintained that playful flare. At the same time, we also noticed celebs having similar style choices.
To see what we mean, you can just scroll down.
Long flowing gowns
Beyoncé and Blue Ivy entered the red carpet earlier in sequined gowns fit for a queen (and princess). And who could blame them? They are music royalty at this point, especially after Bey’s powerful performance at the VMA.

Rihanna also wore a gray ensemble with a ruffled train when she accepted her Michael Jackson Vanguard Award. (Also, can we talk about Drake’s touching message? So sweet!)

Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj kept it classy with a blue mermaid-tail gown with sheer details that show off her thighs. Alicia Keys, as well with her red and black Just Cavalli printed dress.
‘Sheer’ confidence
Some celebs turned some heads with their daring sheer outfits during the VMAs. Probably one of the most talked-about was singer Halsey’s white Yousef Al-Jasmi jumpsuit, complemented well by her dark hair and lipstick.
Meanwhile, Hailey Baldwin also sported a sheer jumpsuit, but in black.
Lastly, Ashley Graham graced the red carpet in a sparkling sheer Naeem Khan dress.
Covering up with blazers and coats
This fashion piece was used in two ways―on top of clothes and, for the daring ones like singer Cassie, nothing at all.
Some notable ones were Jaden Smith in a blazer and long printed coat combo over a sheer top; Nick Jonas in a printed zigzagged jacket; and black on black blazers were seen on The Chainsmokers.
Showing off the collarbones
Before she wore her all-Barbie pink ensemble for her performance, Ariana Grande showed up in a midriff-baring off-shoulder blouse and flowy pants―topped with her signature pony tail, of course.
Model Joan Smalls also wore flowy pants to the VMAs and partnered it with a burgundy halter top that frames her collarbones nicely.
On the other hand, Kim Kardashian in a short black dress with a deep V-neck brought out the sex appeal in a classy way.
Accentuating the legs with slitted dresses
Always trust on a slitted dress to make it seem that your legs are longer. Britney Spears, who also performed after such a long time, came in wearing a black one, with an additional slit by the midriff area for that added sexiness and mystery.
We also saw model Taylor Hill in a sparkly pink and black Moschino dress that shows off her already long legs.
Another model on the red carpet was Naomi Campbell who wore a short gray Brandon Maxwell dress with a small slit on the skirt.
