In case you missed the news: Our own Kylie Verzosa was crowned as Miss International 2016. It’s been a few hours since her win and we’re bringing you more details leading up to Kylie’s coronation.
During their stay in Tokyo, Kylie and the other Miss International contestants toured the country—eating sushi, wearing a kimono, hanging out with local school children, and even meeting President Rodrigo Duterte during his recent visit.
Now, let’s talk about the gowns. Kylie wore a custom Francis Libiran evening gown with his signature intricate bead work. Francis also made her avant-garde terno which, he notes, is inspired by the architecture of the San Agustin Church.
Not to mention that Kylie impressed everyone at the Tokyo Dome Hall and those who were watching the livestream yesterday during the top 15 speech round. “If I become Miss International 2016, I will devote myself to cultural understanding and international understanding because I believe that it is in developing in each of us sensitivity to other cultures that we expand our horizons, tolerate difference and appreciate diversity,” she answered. You can watch her full speech in the video below.
Even though Kylie didn’t win any special awards last night, she still looked graceful up to the moment she was crowned by last year’s winner Edymar Martinez from Venezuela. Meanwhile, Kylie expressed her gratitude to all her supporters in the Philippines, as well as Edymar for being an inspiration to her.
For winning the crown, Kylie will be working on projects which promotes international understanding worldwide.
Again, congratulations, Kylie!
