A transgender Filipina is opening a LGBTQ bakery in Illinois which aims to serve wedding cakes for same-sex couples.
Jenne Vailoces tells DNAinfo that Jennivee’s Bakery will serve cakes like red velvet and Fererro Rocher mousse, as well as a traditional Filipino ube buttercream. These will also come in cupcake form, too.
This will also be a late-night café that will serve Dark Matter coffee, hot chocolate, and variations of tea.
Jenne says that she thought up this idea to open a bakery that will welcome the LGBTQ community in Illinois. And although Illinois is considered an LGBTQ-friendly state, there were reports of some bakeries turning away same-sex couples who are getting married.
“I want this to be the bakery that the LGBT people in Chicago can proudly call their own,” Jenne says. “My No. 1 passion is baking, and I’m a transgender woman who is also very passionate about trans and LGBT issues. So I wanted to share a part of (both) my passions.”
