A transgender Filipina is opening a LGBTQ bakery in Illinois which aims to serve wedding cakes for same-sex couples.
Jenne Vailoces tells DNAinfo that Jennivee’s Bakery will serve cakes like red velvet and Fererro Rocher mousse, as well as a traditional Filipino ube buttercream. These will also come in cupcake form, too.
This will also be a late-night café that will serve Dark Matter coffee, hot chocolate, and variations of tea.
“I want this to be the bakery that the LGBT people in Chicago can proudly call their own,” Jenne says. “My No. 1 passion is baking, and I’m a transgender woman who is also very passionate about trans and LGBT issues. So I wanted to share a part of (both) my passions.”
It’s comforting to see one of our countrymen making a difference for the LGBTQ community on the other side of the globe. So if you happen to be near N. Sheffield Avenue in Illinois, stop by Jennivee’s Bakery and try her cakes to support her venture.
