This Menswear Brand Made What Looks Like Womenswear For Men

While some people are still hung up on New York Fashion Week, we’ve got our eyes on menswear brand Palomo Spain’s S/S 2018 collection. They recently held their sophomore show in Madrid, and it has the same womenswear-inspired pieces that got the attention of Hari Nef and Beyoncé. (Her post-pregnancy dress was by them, FYI.)

For this collection, Palomo took inspiration from hotel life. There were robes with feathery sleeves, bell boy-inspired suits, and even a sling bag with “Come In, Do Me” hanging on the clasp. There were also pieces that were reminiscent of colorful ’70s fashion—garments with trippy designs and vibrant embroidered jackets.

Palomo Spain was started by designer Alejandro Palomo. In an interview with W Magazine, he emphasized his vision of making gender fluid pieces. “I’m not thinking about gender; it might be on a man because I like men, it’s my universe, and I get inspired by men, but everyone can admire a good piece of clothing.” He also thought that Beyoncé chose the dress because she simply saw it as a “beautiful piece of clothing” and probably didn’t know it was from a menswear line.

We hope to see more designers and brands go for the gender neutral or gender fluid route. Good job, Palomo! Definitely looking forward to their future showcases.
