A Miss Spain 2017 contestant became viral recently after falling in a pool in the middle of a twirl.
In a video posted on Miss Universe Spain’s YouTube page, Miss Caceres Spain Pilar Magro tripped during a dress and swimsuit presentation. She was then lifted up by a lifeguard after the fall. Meanwhile, the other contestants applauded to show support amid the accident and made sure that she was okay. Pilar also decided to own up to her faux pas and just went for a casual swim. How’s that for a flawless recovery?
Of course, netizens couldn’t help but laugh at Pilar’s misfortune. Many even blamed her for the accident, asking why she was walking on the edge in the first place.
This is another classic example of people ridiculing the mistakes of beauty queens—as if they’re not allowed to make them. But let’s also remember how even incidents like these also get rewarded. Remember when Miriam Quiambao tripped during Miss Universe 1999? She still won first runner up and her fall became an iconic moment in pageant history. For all we know, Pilar might still have a fighting chance.
Good luck in the pageant, Pilar! Don’t let the doubters get to you.
