Beyoncé performed a two-hour set at Coachella—the whole time she was singing and dancing, as well as doing five outfit changes. We may never know how she managed to do it. But what we do know is how her makeup stayed on the whole time.
Makeup artist Sir John divulged to Refinery29 that he wanted to create a “college girl on campus” look for Beyoncé. He also did double-duty layering to make sure nothing budged. “Layering is the key, so you want to use a liquid foundation, then set it with bronzer; a cream blush, then set it with powder blush; eyeliner, then set it with shadow. No matter what part of the face, it has a double application,” he said.
He also shared some of the products that he used on her, and they’re surprisingly affordable. Shop them ASAP and feel like you’re one step closer to the Queen B herself.
Glittery eye
Sir John said that he used iridescent purple glitter on top of a warm, terracotta base for Beyoncé’s eye look. To achieve the same look, you can use Beauty Bakerie’s Sprinkles in Purple. It’s made with fine glitter so you can pack this on without the grainy feel. Available on Sephora PH.
Subtle liner
A great way to balance out a dark upper lid liner is to use a coffee brown liner on the bottom lash line. Sir John suggested MAC’s Technakohl Liner in Brownborder. “I always tell women, even though you make your wing with black, coffee eyeliner on the bottom is the best finisher because it doesn’t weigh down the eyes,” he says. This liner is made with a creamy formula for hassle-free application. Available on Nordstrom.
Voluminous lashes
Complete the fierce Beyoncé smize with a few swipes of mascara. To add length and volume, Sir John used L’Oreal’s Lash Paradise for that dramatic effect. Available online.
Luscious brown lips
Beyoncé sported a brown lipstick that matched her skin tone courtesy of L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Les Chocolats lipstick. This gave her luscious-looking lips without looking too matte. For something similar, we suggest using the Color Riche Moist Matte in Chocolate Bisous which is a reddish-brown shade and equally long-wearing. Available at SM Makati.
No-sweat skin
How did Beyoncé’s skin look flawless during the whole performance? Answer: a no-budge body spray. “I found this new body makeup called AllEven, it’s a spray makeup but it will not move. You can have white sheets and sleep and it won’t transfer. I use it on her boobs, arms, and legs. We had four changes so we wanted something transfer-resistant,” Sir John said. The AllEven Colour Shield comes in three shades—Ivory, Sand, Amber—and will give your skin an airbrushed, velvet-like finish. Available online.
