While Liza Soberano is training for her role as Filipino superheroine Darna, some netizens don’t seem convinced that she can do it justice. Darna isn’t even out yet but they’re already judging her ability to pull off the action scenes. This is also why Angel Locsin recently came to her defense.
Angel, who played Darna in 2005, responded to a comment on her knife-fighting video. The netizen said, “Ikaw na lang po sana nag-Darna Ms. @therealangellocsin [Angel Locsin] kaya mo din pala mag-action sayang lang po yung pinalit pa sayo lampa pa wala pang napatunayan kahit sa Bagani ang lamya kumilos.” (You should be Darna, Ms. Locsin. You can actually do action. It’s a shame that the one who replaced you is dainty. She hasn’t proven anything; even in Bagani she moves daintily.)
The actress simply replied, “Not true. She can do action scenes really well. Sana stop na to. (I hope this stops.) Thanks.”
It’s true that Angel was supposed to take up the role, but due to her spinal injury in 2015, she wasn’t able to commit to it. Based on her knife-fighting video, it seems that she got her strength back and is ready to do more action projects again. However, we don’t think it’s fair to not give Liza a chance to prove herself as the new Darna.
So good on Angel for supporting Liza on her upcoming venture because women should be empowering each other. We’re willing to bet that she’s giving her tips behind the scenes too!
