Meeting the parents? There’s a couture dress for that

By Jacqueline Ariason July 4, 2018

The term “couture” somehow gives the impression that ensembles are not wearable. But that’s not always the case. Paris fall couture 2018 started this week and we’re seeing pieces that we’d personally grab for various occasions. And we don’t just mean the typical dates.

We picked some looks and where we’d wear them. Because who doesn’t want to wear couture dresses on regular days, right?

Alberta Ferretti

When to wear: Meeting your boyfriend/girlfriend’s parents

Its always scary to meet your significant other’s parents. “What will they think of me?” you’ll anxiously ask yourself. But you know what they say: making a good first impression is key. So calm down, talk to them, and be nice. Also, you can wear this fiery-colored Alberta Ferretti dress that’s not too eveningwear-like but has enough fringe that’ll stick to anyone’s memory.

Armani Privé

When to wear: If the venue of a black-tie party is cold

These types of events are usually held at hotel function rooms where the A/C’s temperature is cold-AF degrees Celsius. If you’re wearing a sleeveless gown, throw on a plain coat or go #extra like this piece from Armani Privé. The cape, which is attached to the velvet dress, is a mix of white and pink feather material, and it’s floor-length. We wonder if Armani Privé has a separate coat that looks like this?

Giambattista Valli

When to wear: On your way to meet your future spouse

This all-white ensemble from Giambattista Valli is like a modern version of a wedding dress. The model is wearing white ankle-length pants, a top with feather details on the neck and sleeves, and a veil. You can wear this if you’re meeting your SO as a subtle hint-drop. You can also remove the veil anytime if you think it’s too obvious.

Christian Dior

When to wear: Your actual wedding

If you don’t want a white wedding dress, go for a beige one. Christian Dior’s collection has several flowy gowns of different shades. The one above has thin straps and a belt. Wear nude heels with this to complete the neutral look.

Chanel

When to wear: Going to a night out after an eight-hour work shift

If you’re working a corporate job, it’s important to dress sharp—blazers, pencil skirts, heels, and so on. But if you have plans after your shift and don’t have time to change clothes, you can wear this Chanel outfit that has a long-sleeved blouse and an ankle-length skirt with a slit on the side. The pieces come in metallic shades, all you need is to switch your makeup from day to night then you’re good to go.

Iris Van Herpen

When to wear: Meeting new people at clubs

Iris Van Herpen’s collection was filled pieces that have architectural designs. The last piece reminded us of peacock wings when they open up during mating dances. This might be perfect for late-night parties, especially if it’s encouraged to wear a costume. It’s short, glittery, and the design is a conversation starter. You might even meet someone while grabbing a drink at the bar.

Schiaparelli

When to wear: Matching with your dog

You know how people say that dogs can look like or have a similar vibe with their owners? Schiaparelli took that to the next level with one of their ensembles from their whimsical collection. They topped a white dress with a headpiece/mask of a spotted dog with tulle for ears. How’s that for canine appreciation?

Sonia Rykel

When to wear: You’re late and you don’t have time to pick an outfit

Imagine this: You overslept and you need to get ready and arrive to your destination in 30 minutes or less. You’re just wearing your cute sleeping robe and don’t have time to choose an outfit. This is the vibe we got from this Schiaparelli ensemble consisting of a floor-length lace robe and leather pants. We’re taking note of this for our rushed days.

Givenchy

When to wear: Mariah Carey’s concert

We’re quite serious about wearing glitter if you’re watching Mariah Carey’s concert here in October. This silver glittered coat from Givenchy is a safe choice since you can throw it over any outfit—even jeans and a T-shirt!
