Singer Kiana Valenciano opened up about her struggles with anxiety and depression in an Instagram post.

She admits to having a particularly tough year in 2016. The 25-year old relates this as the story behind her neck tattoo.

A post shared by Kiana ? (@kianavee) on Jul 19, 2018 at 1:23am PDT

In the caption, she admitted how it got to the point where she physically hurt herself. She shared, “It wasn’t until a friend pointed out that I had scratches and scars across the back of my neck that I realized I was lost and needed help.”

She said having a great support system helped her overcome the depression. “Two years later, with the combined help of God, my family, amazing friends, and Sam, I’m able to deal with my anxiety in a healthier way. No more scratches! Just a reminder that I’m saved.”

She ended the post by leaving an important message for those who may also be struggling: “If you’re going through something, don’t be afraid to let people in. Let your loved ones love you.”

Thank you, Kiana, for having the courage to share your story.
