I worked from home for two days and it was a struggle

Work From Home

Some of your jobs might require to work from home but for those who regularly go to an office, the switch is weird. For two days this week, our office decided that we could work from home because of the bad weather. Sounds pretty good right? Imagine staying in bed while putting decks together or taking important calls from your kitchen. It might sound like fun, but it’s actually pretty difficult. A home environment isn’t exactly conducive to productivity, unless you have an office space in your house. If you don’t here are some tips to get you through working at home.

Work at a desk

If you’re planning to work at home, make sure you have the space for it. You might think that get tasks done from your bed or couch will be relaxing, but it’s not. Not only will this be bad for your back, but you’re likely to be less productive. You might just end up falling asleep in bed and then wake up in the morning realizing that you haven’t accomplished anything.

Keep it lit

Apart from having a decent working space, make sure that area is well-lit. This is a good tip for many reasons. First, making sure you have enough light will be less strenuous on your eyes. Second, natural light especially will help improve your creative output and learning. Eco-Business also states, “daylight promotes human health and potential. Workers around the world are catching on, with many starting to question how this valuable natural element should be shared between staff.”

Block out distractions

Since you’re at home, you are more likely to be surrounded by distractions. So, you might be tempted to watch a movie while you work but stay strong and stop yourself. Chances are you’ll forget about the task at hand and just pay attention to the movie. Instead, maybe reward yourself with a few episodes of your favorite shoe once you’re done.

Be alone

You might be used to working around people at the office but do not invite your friends over when you’re working. This can only end disastrously. Sure, you might want the company but your workload is going to suffer. It’ll be difficult but sit down at your desk until you’re deliverables-free and then you can go see your friends.

Get dressed

Even if you’re just at home, it’s best to get dressed. I don’t mean a full-on work outfit but something that aren’t pajamas. Maybe throw on some comfortable trousers and T-shirt or blouse. You might think this is a waste of time but if you end up working in pajamas, you’ll be too lazy to even get up. So make the extra effort for maximum productivity.
