Maine Mendoza has been named the 2018 Ultimate Asian Sweetheart, and we’re not at all surprised. She has become one of the most celebrated women in local show business today. Her sudden and overwhelming rise to fame may be a wonder to most, but her fans know she deserves every bit of success she currently enjoys. To celebrate a landmark in her career, her supporters took to social media to show their love. Here’s why we’re on the same train as her fans:
She’s not afraid to be funny
We first met her through her Dubsmash videos and then again as yayadub in the popular noon time show, Eat Bulaga. For most, her presence was a breath of fresh air. She essentially broke the stereotype of the lead girl looking flawlessly beautiful every time. She’s known to make fun of herself, and we love her for it.
She’s down to earth
She stays grounded despite her massive success. She remains appreciative of the people who helped her get to where she is today, and she doesn’t let haters get to her.
Bago pa ako ibash ng sambayanan, mauuna na ako.. Bakit ako? Pero maraming salamat po! Magandang umaga sa lahat!

She can hold her own
Being paired with actor Alden Richards has inarguably helped boost her career, but she’s much more than that. Yes, she’s beautiful, but she’s smart and talented too. Did you know she can play the drums? Oh, and she’s a passionate writer too, and has even managed to release her own book. “I couldn’t be prouder of the fact that I wrote everything in it. You’ll know some of my life’s little adventures (and misadventures too!),” she shared.
She stands up for what she believes in
Remember that episode in Eat Bulaga where Joey De Leon drew flak for undermining mental health problems? Maine stood her ground and contradicted the host, saying depression is a serious matter; that it’s not a joke, and rather than making fun of victims, we should support them.
Maine Mendoza. Bravo for standing up to a complete asshat. We need more of you. Less of Joey de Leon.

She keeps it real
Despite her countless achievements and immense popularity, she still somehow manages to be relatable. She stays true to her endearing, perfectly imperfect self, and it shows.
