Another publication bites the dust.
After a series of internal changes and processes, such as parent company Condé Nast’s repositioning of the publication to form The Lucky Group and staff layoffs that affected 14 employees, Lucky magazine finally folded its print edition.
Efforts to dabble in both e-commerce and print took a toll on the company, especially when longtime editor in chief Eva Chen resigned in April. Announcements of the magazine’s transition to become a quarterly publication—a “premium collectible,” as Josh Berman, CEO of The Lucky Group, would put it—were made shortly after. Today’s news of Lucky’s shuttering print operations then came unexpectedly but timely.
For now, the publication will continue its online operations in LuckyShops.com even without crucial employees such as accessories director Kalachikoff and fashion features editor Hayley Phelan. Till further advancements and additional investors, we’ll have to wait if the beloved monthly will return to our newsstands.
Lucky is a fashion and lifestyle magazine founded in 2000 by Kim France. Despite starting big in Condé Nast, the magazine has suffered dwindling numbers in readership, proving everybody’s fear that print might be near death.
