A classy way to wear the chunky rapper chain necklace

Statement pieces are a fashion staple at this point. They make our plain outfits stand out and they’re nice to look at up close and from a mile away. We’ve seen several this year but the most recent that we spotted are chunky chain necklaces.

You could say that this is another throwback accessory like scrunchies or bobby pins. Rappers have been wearing over-the-top chains since the ’80s, and you’ll probably remember seeing them while watching MTV when you were younger. They did necklace layering before Kim Kardashian, but that many chains probably felt uncomfortable.

Fast forward to this year, bold chains gained momentum on Instagram according to JCK. Fall 2018 runways also saw chain link necklaces from Chloé, Balenciaga, and Nicopanda. They’re still eye-catching but they’re not as exaggerated as before.

We also spotted Loisa Andalio and Careless Music Manila singer Sofia Romualdez wearing chunky chains recently.

Isabel Marant Silver-Plated Crystal Choker

This is the exact choker that Aimee Song and Kendall Jenner have worn. It’s made with silver-plated brass and has a crystal-encrusted T-bar fastening, which is a great centerpiece. Available on Net-a-Porter.

Tiffany & Co. Return to Tiffany Heart Tag Toggle Necklace

If you want a heart-shaped pendant for your choker, cop this one from Tiffany & Co. According to their website, this is inspired by their iconic key ring. This is also a great gift for your special someone, friends, and mom. Available at Rustan’s Makati.

Hermès Chaine d’Ancre Necklace

This chain necklace has a mix of rose gold and black spinel gemstones to create a dark and sparkly gradient. The links aren’t overly huge but the color is enough to make heads turn. Available at Greenbelt 3.

Dsquared2 Chunky Chain Necklace

When I saw this necklace, Perea Street‘s “The chunkiness is killing me” started playing in my head—in a good way. Inspired by the punk rock era, this piece is made from gold-toned tin and brass, creating a wooden-like color. Available on Farfetch.

Zara Maxi Stone Necklace

Not into ridiculously big chain links? This Zara piece has colored stones attached to chunky gold chains. Wear this over a blouse or dress, even a plain shirt, to add more oomphAvailable at SM Megamall.
