The resolutions you should make for your home

Space Resolutions

We’re almost at the end of 2018 and I’m sure you already have your list of resolutions. These probably revolve around personal growth, health, and even work-related matters. However, did you ever think about making some resolutions for your living space? Most likely not but you should. With busy days and nights, we tend to forget to look after our homes. We leave them be and forget to do even the simple tasks like cleaning up after ourselves or fixing our bed. Eventually this becomes routine and your space is in chaos. Now, to avoid that from happening, here’s what you can do.

Switch it out

Don’t be too lazy to do this, everyone, and stop putting it off. Regularly change your towels, sheets, and other things that get dirty right away. These include dish towels and bath mats. You can just have certain sets in rotation so that you have some in use while the others are being washed.

Go reusable

As much as possible, try to go zero-waste at home. Use cloth towels instead of paper, pick up some reusable glass containers, and swap cotton pads for eco-friendly ones. Having to keep these clean takes more work, but you’ll be helping the environment in the long run.

Clean your filter

To avoid any allergies and excess dust building up in your home, clean your aircon filters. You’ll be surprised at how much dust collects in that screen. And, it’s not that difficult to do either. You can just wash it in the sink and let it air dry before popping it back in.

Keep the sink empty

We’re all guilty of leaving dirty dishes in the sink after eating. I get it, you just want to head straight to bed after dinner but don’t let these pile up. Next year, make it a point to wash your dishes right after using them.

Watch your energy

If you want to save some money, check your energy consumption. When things aren’t in use, switch them off. No, you don’t need every lightbulb in the house on. Another step you can take is unplugging the appliances not in use as well. Try this out and see how much energy you save.

Do more than sweep

You probably do a good job of sweeping, but you have to do more. That just takes care of the first layer of dust. The only way to get rid of the rest is to wipe everything down with a wet rag. Sure it’s a lot of work but you will be so happy with your clean space.

Check the fridge

Constantly check the fridge for two reasons. First, make sure you have enough food for the week. This way, you don’t have to resort to eating out all the time, and ultimately also saving some money. Second, always get rid of food that is no longer edible. Please don’t keep old bottles and cans that are past their expiration date.
