Darren Criss has won his first Golden Globe for his role as serial killer Andrew Cunanan in The Assassination of Gianni Versace. In his speech, he thanked the one person who inspired him the most: his Filipino mom.

The actor is half-Filipino, and he acknowledged his roots, saying, “This has been a marvelous year for representation in Hollywood, and I’m so enormously proud to be a teeny tiny part of that as the son of a firecracker Filipino woman.” Darren then dedicated the award to her.

"This has been a marvelous year for representation in Hollywood, and I'm so enormously proud to be a teeny tiny part of that as the son of a firecracker Filipino woman … Mom, I know you're watching this… I dedicate this to you." – Darren Criss on his first #GoldenGlobes win pic.twitter.com/g4PKsoXROw

In the past, Darren was under fire for allegedly denouncing his Filipino heritage. Now, it seems that he’s fully embracing that fact—at least we hope he is.

Anyway, congratulations on your win, Darren! Also, if you haven’t seen the series yet, it’ll be out on Netflix on Jan. 20. [Wink]
