Ah, Golden Globes. Sure, we’re excited to see who goes home with an award. But, admit it, you are secretly tuned in for something else: the unexpected shenanigans too. Witnessing unscripted, funny moments is everything. And if we’re truly lucky, the night will bless us with a new meme or two.
Thankfully, this year didn’t disappoint. But it isn’t what a lot of us expected. No, it wasn’t Chrissy Teigen, or any other Hollywood star, who stole the show. It was the photobombing model dubbed as “Fiji Water Girl” who won the best meme of the night, hands down. Managing to be included in photos of almost every actor in the red carpet, Fiji Water Girl was clearly living her best life at the awards night, and we all want to be her.

For a few hours, she remained a mystery. But unsurprisingly, she’s no longer anonymous. Fiji Water Girl is actually Kelleth Cuthbert, a Los Angeles-based model currently modeling for Wilhelmina, The Daily Mail uncovered. She additionally told Glamour that she used to be a social worker in Canada, specializing in mental health and addictions counseling. But she also has been modeling for years and had “done commercials, PSAs, short films, and worked modeling gigs at other award shows, but this is by far the biggest exposure.” She’s hella amused and proud of it, too. “I do love a good meme, so I think it’s incredibly ironic and funny that I’m one now… My husband is laughing very hard about all of this,” she said.
She also revealed that she has been photobombing since she was a kid, so yep, this meme seems pretty much written in the stars. Though she shared it was surprising how big it all got (“I thought maybe I’m in the background of a couple shots”), she did admit to LA Times that her photobombs were far from accidental. “It’s all strategic,” she said. “You’ve got to angle.” Yas, girl!
While Kelleth takes the crown for her Fiji Water Girl meme, we do have our runners-up: Glenn Close, John Krasinski, and Lady Gaga.
Glenn Close is the actress who beat Lady Gaga to the best actress title. And it seems no one was more surprised at the win than Glenn Close herself. Her epic reaction has since been immortalized into memes.

Another favorite of ours was John Krasinski accidentally copying the iconic Meryl Streep shouting meme while cheering for his wife, Emily Blunt. Emily even managed to find him and smile, as one Twitter user noted. Awwww. If this isn’t true love, I don’t know what is.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has another meme waiting to happen. Her famous “There-can-be-100-people-in-a-group-and-99-people-don’t-believe-in-you” meme might just give way to a “nectar-of-my-being” meme. She told Ryan Seacrest in a red carpet interview that acting is about “going to the nectar of your being.” Refinery29 noted that the actress has also said that phrase multiple times before. Not really sure if I get it, but hey, I am into it. Will for sure use this phrase regularly from now on.
Did L. Gaga really just say you have to "go to the nectar of your being"? I'm out.
