We all have to be better at filtering what we post on social media. Not every meme is funny, many of them can actually be straight-up mean. Demi Lovato is learning this the hard way. On her now-deleted Twitter account, she posted a meme related to rapper 21 Savage’s deportation.
BBC reported “The rapper, Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, came to the US in July 2005 aged 12 and failed to leave when his visa expired a year later, officials said.”
After tweeting the meme, people flooded Demi’s IG account with hate comments.
These mainly surrounded around her drug addiction. People called her “junkie” and a “crackhead.” Others even asked, “Lol who overdosed???”
After reading the comments, Demi apologized for what she did and reminded people that we shouldn’t joke about addiction either.
This whole situation is so wrong on both sides. First, Demi shouldn’t have shared that photo. Being deported isn’t a laughing matter. On the other hand, people didn’t have to attack her. I get their point but there are better ways to get your message across that isn’t hurtful. Let this just be a wake up call for everyone to just chill the f*ck out and really think long and hard before posting or saying anything.
