Not gonna lie, we’ve got a soft spot for hearing endearing couple’s mushy stories. We currently have plenty since everyone seems to be getting engaged or married these days. While it’s getting harder to keep up with them, we’re certainly not complaining. The more, the merrier, right? So far, we’re loving all the proposals, but one that caught our eye is Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s—specifically, for the unique, pink flower-shaped engagement ring that’s so Katy.
Personally, I’m all for anything unconventional that makes a proposal stand out; a detail that gives an insight on the people in the relationship. A one of a kind engagement ring certainly does that. If you loved Katy’s ring too, here are other unconventional celebrity engagement rings you can also check out.
Mary Kate Olsen
To match Mary Kate Olsen’s effortlessly chic style, Olivier Sarkozy got her an engagement ring comprised of a 4-carat round diamond surrounded by 16 sapphires, and smaller round diamonds and gold “leaves.” The vintage Cartier piece was reportedly purchased at an auction for $81,000 and dates back to 1953.
To surprise his then-girlfriend, actor Evan Ross went with famed jeweler Neil Lane who also designed Jessica Simpson’s unique engagement ring. Ashlee’s was a pink art deco piece with 5-carat diamond, accented with rubies and 140 small white diamonds. “A vintage inspiration with a contemporary feel using calibrated cut rubies gave that vibrant art deco feel,” Neil told InStyle. “The navette shape evoked the romance (of the) Edwardian Era,” he added.
Olivia Wilde’s ring which features a diamond surrounded by a halo of emeralds reportedly cost Jason Sudeikis a whopping $65,000. He chose it because the color—a bit of an aqua emerald, instead of a deep dark green—reminded him of Olivia’s eyes. Aww! The mystery behind the vintage ring is something Olivia loves too. “All they know is that it went through Paris around 1921,” Olivia told Brides. “I love imagining the story of this ring. Who had it?”
Cameron and Benjie Madden got engaged just seven months after dating, and wedded soon after in a private ceremony. “We got married in our living room in front of our friends,” Cameron told radio host Andy Cohen. “Had a little party in our backyard on the tennis court and yeah. Otherwise it would have been something else.” Naturally, the not-so-typical love story deserves a not-so-typical ring: A thick gold ring with multiple diamonds set in the band.
Solange is another unconventional bride (those caped wedding jumpsuits are still everything) whose distinct yet classy engagement ring from music video director, Alan Ferguson, just screams Solange all over. It’s an open-design gold band with two bezel-set stones, one square-shaped and one emerald cut white diamond opposite one another. Sadly, it got lost during Mardi Gras in 2016. Tears!
We all know Zoe doesn’t care much about conforming to what’s “normal.” Having been secretly engaged to actor Karl Glusman, Zoe was actually wearing her engagement ring for several months without the public noticing, and just happened to reveal it casually to Rolling Stones. The extremely rare “18th Century diamond half loop” from The One I Love, an antique and modern jewelry store in N.Y.C., “hosts a row of beautiful collet-set rose-cut diamonds in a closed back setting of silver topped gold, which was common during the time period and allows for the stones to emit a rich smoky hue,” Mia Moross, the store’s owner, shared. Zoe additionally told W Magazine: “It was actually a ring I’d been kind of fawning over from afar, and a friend of mine of whispered that into Karl’s ear.”
