PSA: The long weekend starts today! Yup, Monday is a holiday and we are rejoicing. Rest is definitely on my mind, but I want to head out as well. I’ve been hiding in my shell for a few weeks and I am looking to spread my social butterfly wings for the next few days. There are always so many events happening on a regular basis, and this weekend is also very busy. From art to music, and even theater, I gathered some happenings you might be interested in checking out.
Art Fair 2019
Art Fair 2019 starts today! I hope you were able to grab your tickets early, because it’s going to be packed. We got a sneak peek yesterday and there is a little bit of everything for everyone. If you want to know about some of the female artists, check this story. Located at The Link, Ayala Center, Makati City.
Big Bad Wolf Book Sale
The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale also starts today and will run until March 4. But, since it’s a long weekend, why not try making your way there in the next few days? I might do this myself and look for books that have been sold out everywhere I’ve looked. My plan is to go at an odd hour so that there aren’t much people. Does 3 a.m. sound like a good time? Located at World Trade Center, Pasay Extension corner Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue, Pasay City.
Linya by Doktor Karayom
The art events don’t stop at Art Fair. Today, over at Aphro Living, they will be showcasing Linya by Doktor Karayom. It features a long line of customized resin sculptures. “Linya, which means line or stand in line, portrays the struggle of the everyday Filipino commuter whose time is spent mostly waiting in line.” If this speaks to you, head on to Aphro at 5 p.m. Located at Aphro, The Alley at Karrivin, Karrivin Plaza, Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Makati City.
Garaparty x Blitz
If you haven’t already been to the gallery-slash-bar Limbo in Poblacion, this is your excuse to do it. Tomorrow there will be a Garaparty x Blitz event starting at 9 p.m. “Blitz proposes a multi textured take on party music,” while “Garaparty is a leg project of Garapata where art in any form is installed in the party venue.” Music meets art? Yes, please! For this edition, there will be an instillation by Subgenre, a live set by Big Hat Gang, and DJ sets as well. Located at Limbo, 5374 General Luna Street, Barangay Poblacion, Makati City.
Baratilyo sa Escolta
Yard sale alert! Manila Artpost’s Baratilyo sa Escolta will have their final event for the month tomorrow. It was a weekly yard sale where “pre-loved books, cameras, clothes, CDs, and other little trinkets” were being sold. You will be shopping for a cause since a part of the proceeds will be going to families affected by the war on drugs. Head on over to Escolta from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Located at Unit 321B, 3F First United Building, 413 Escolta Street, Binondo, Manila City.
Fashion Revolution: The Future of Textiles
Living a sustainable lifestyle can also apply to the clothes you wear. If you want to know more about that process, visit this exhibit done in collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Manila, the Embassy of Sweden in Manila, H&M Philippines, and BabyBjörn. It “showcases the progress done in making the Swedish fashion industry more circular in both production and consumption.” It will run until April 30, but add this to your calendar of activities this weekend. History Talks: Memory and Martial Law
Up for a history lesson tomorrow? Check out this lecture at Ayala Museum. Here, you will “learn about the historiography of Martial Law with Mr. Brian Paul Giron of the Ateneo de Manila’s History Department.” Don’t forget to register online. Tusok Tusok x Pineapple Lab
