A documentary about menstruation just won an Oscar

Period. End of Sentence, a documentary about menstruation, just took home the Best Documentary Short at the Oscars, and director Rayka Zehtabchi and producer Melissa Berton had the best acceptance speech

“I’m not crying because I’m on my period or anything,” Rayka said. “I can’t believe a film about menstruation just won an Oscar.”

The Netflix original film follows a group of  women in a rural village outside of Delhi, India who learned to manufacture sanitary pads. It also gives a closer look at their struggle to combat the stigma surrounding menstruation.

Melissa stressed, “A period should end a sentence, not a girl’s education.”

Well said. Congrats Rayka and Melissa!
