By any chance, would Kris Jenner want this Kim K portrait mounted on her wall?

Do you have any plans tonight? If not, Vinyl on Vinyl has an exhibit opening and a pop art-style portrait of Kim Kardashian is also included as a commentary for the value of art and influencer presence. Hmmm, interesting.

Ronald Caringal’s Hype How Are You? I’m Fined, Thank You is a series that reflects on “how it is to be an artist in this current age and climate of the Internet and the art market.” He explained on Instagram how art and aesthetics nowadays can easily be buried on social media, especially with the amount of content that is being posted and how algorithms favor the most-liked.

He also poses the questions, “When artists are expected to be mini celebrities and so called influencers, when will the work get its turn to influence? Is the artist more important than the work itself? What makes you buy an artwork? What makes you say it’s good? What value do you give to it? Should we even talk about the work or we can just discuss how well it does in the market?”

So, why is Kim Kardashian among the subjects of this exhibit? Probably because her name has more value and gives her more pull when it comes to her business and entertainment ventures. But that’s just our interpretation.

This exhibit, plus three others, will open at Vinyl on Vinyl in Makati tonight, March 13. Go see the artworks—maybe buy some, too—before they’re gone!
