Throwing shade is nothing new but with social media, it has made the culture even more prevalent. Some people take it overboard and it becomes nasty, however it doesn’t always have to be this way. It can be done in a classy or subtle way that still deserves snaps. One person who is actually really good at this is Naomi Campbell. Sure, she can be vocal. But lately, her Instagram posts throw so much shade, and she didn’t even have to sound off in the caption.
Naomi has been posting a lot of throwback shots showing old runway and campaign photos we all wish we were a part of. It’s almost like she’s saying, “Hey, I’ve done all this and I’m still in the game.” Yes, girl. We live for it.
Her more recent posts, however, seem to be very subtle replies to the Kardashian-Jenner ladies. This all started when Kim was spotted in Azzedine AlaÏa outfits previously seen on Naomi. How did she respond? By posting her looks, which was simple yet effective.
This happened again but this time with Kylie Jenner. She posted an OOTD wearing a crystal scarf and sunglasses similar to this one Naomi wore on the runway.
However, in this case, she might have been throwing shade at the designer as well. The pieces Naomi sported were by Rifat Ozbek back in 1995 while Kylie’s was from Michael Ngo.
Diet Prada also pointed out, “The ’90s was an era in fashion where supermodels were muses like no other. Designers would often create looks specifically for them and the symbiosis of those relationships became iconic moments for both the designers and their models.” This is also calling out all designers who are more than inspired by past collections that they merely copy them without having any creative input whatsoever. It’s disrespectful and lazy. There’s a way to be inspired without copying everything down to tee. But until you learn, Naomi will keep throwing subtle shade at all of you.
