Or maybe… just don’t.
The past few days, the internet has been going crazy over FaceApp’s new features, which include an aging filter. Users have since posted pictures of their future selves all over social media. The app is so incredibly popular that it has garnered over 12.7 million downloads worldwide, and even A-list celebrities have joined the bandwagon and have already been uploading their “senior” photos.
However, the tea has been spilled regarding FaceApp’s privacy warning issues.
According to Independent, the app uses artificial intelligence to alter your photos—meaning it is uploaded to the app’s servers to ensure quality face alteration. Handing your photos to the app means that it can do whatever it wants with your faces. Absolutely anything.
The terms and conditions state, “You grant FaceApp a perpetual, irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, fully-paid, transferable sub-licensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly perform and display your User Content and any name, username or likeness provided in connection with your User Content in all media formats and channels now known or later developed, without compensation to you.”
This means that you will no longer be the sole owner of your photos, and that you’ll be giving FaceApp FULL ACCESS to rights over it. Who knows what they can use if those for?
