Feeling like “Crash Landing on You” and “Itaewon Class” were released several lightyears ago? You’re not the only one who’s been missing CLOY’s star-crossed lovers and Itaewon’s DanBam gang. But you can rest easy now, K-drama fan. This month, the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines is holding its Korean Film Festival 2020 so you can reunite with Hyun Bin, Son Ye-jin and Park Seo-joon. Yes, jinjja (meaning really in Korean).
From Sept. 12 to Oct. 2, KCC will be offering free film access to two South Korean films starring our faves each week. They will be available on KCC’s official website so we suggest that you bookmark the site ASAP.
Hyun Bin stars opposite K-pop artist Nana as a legendary con man in “The Swindlers.” If you’re hoping to see him in a role similar to Captain Ri, don’t miss your chance to watch “Confidential Assignment” where he plays a North Korean officer chasing a dangerous criminal. Here’s a bonus: Girls Generation’s Yoona helps him hunt the man down as a South Korean detective. You can stream both films from Sept. 12 to Sept. 18.
As a treat to BinJin fans, Son Ye-jin films come next in the lineup and will be available from Sept.19 to Sept 25. “Be With You” is a remake of a Japanese film of the same name where her character keeps a promise to return at the start of the rainy season a year after she passes away. In the “Last Princess,” she takes on the role of Princess Deokhye, the last princess of the Joseon Dynasty who was taken to Japan as a hostage in the 1920s.
Wrapping up the almost month-long festival, are two more films from a South Korean heartthrob. Get your much-needed dose of Park Seo-joon eye candy from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2. He plays a Korean National Police University student who witnessed a kidnapping in the action-comedy “Midnight Runners” while he plays a man whose body magically changes age, gender or nationality every day (like David Levithan’s “Every Day”) on the romcom “The Beauty Inside.”
If that isn’t enough to satisfy your K-culture craving, special raffle prizes consisting of K-culture items and Korean cosmetic sets can be won by 10 participants who take the film fest’s survey.
