No, BTS isn’t going on hiatus—but the members will focus on solo projects

Due to a mistranslation, many believed that the group was going on an indefinite hiatus

Armys can breathe easy now.

Contrary to previous reports, BTS is not going into an indefinite hiatus.

Last night, during their group dinner, the group opened up about their exhaustion and burnout from making nonstop content and needing a change, with Suga casually dropping that they were going on “hiatus.”

“Somehow it’s become my job to be a rapping machine and remake music and speak in English for the group,” said leader RM in Korean. “I just want to take some time to think,” he added. The other members also voiced similar concerns, with rapper and producer Suga saying that songwriting has become a struggle. “I’m just squeezing it out because we have to satisfy people’s wants and the listeners… it’s so painful.”

They also revealed that they were working on solo projects, with J-Hope being the first one planned to make a big release.

After the dinner, their entertainment company Hybe clarified that BTS will not be going on hiatus. While it’s true that the members will be focusing on their solo careers, the group will still be active in “different formats.”

As many fans noted even before Hybe’s clarification, the use of “hiatus” seemed to be a mistranslation. What the boys really meant was that they were taking some time off to regroup and work on their individual projects, which is different from a full-on hiatus. This means that while we may not be getting new BTS music soon, we will still be seeing them perform together in other capacities.

Still, we hope that during this time, the boys get to take a breather and relax. They took a month-long break in 2019 and an “extended period of rest” in 2021, and if there’s any group that’s deserved to take some time off for themselves, it’s them.
