Angelica Panganiban Has No Chill About MMFF Disqualification of ‘Honor Thy Father’

John Lloyd Cruz Angelica Panganiban Preen

The Best Girlfriend of the Year award goes to Angelica Panganiban, specifically for the special category: the kind that supports her boyfriend’s films.

The Pangako Sa’yo actress isn’t happy about John Lloyd Cruz’s film’s disqualification from the Best Picture category in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. The actor stars in Erik Matti’s latest movie Honor Thy Father, a motion picture about the sacrifices a family man must make and the country’s many corrupt realities.

Angelica took her sentiments to Instagram, reposting scoops of what really went down.

Nakakalungkot to.. Nakakalungkot.. Heart breaking..

Naturally, the actress urges her big following to do what they can: Watch the film and possibly change the committee’s minds. Angelica regrammed long posts—probably friends or her fans—that expressed disappointment toward the matter and awe for the film.

Cation from @iamangelicap's Instagram: #Repost @_riccichan_ with @repostapp. ・・・ How do I set up a post about a topic that I'm infuriated about without sounding negative about it? Wait. Ganito na lang: Guys, the power is in our hands. We decide what we want to see, and in turn, what movies will earn. So please support those that we like. Cause no matter what other people say, we have our own set of rules, and we are, at the end, the ones who will be enjoying it. And through that, we will be able to shape the kinds of movies that the yearly "festival" puts out. With that being said, I highly encourage the fans of @aldenrichards02, @mainedcm, @praybeytbenjamin, @msaiaidelasalas, #Bosing, @onecocomartin, @ramsayderek11, @withlovekrisaquino, @mercadojenny, @jerichorosalesofficial, @itspokwang27, @xianlimm and @chinitaprincess to see #HonorThyFather after seeing their favorites on screen. Please share your Christmas spirit with them. They don't ask for anything but your support and fair treatment for this season. By doing so, we keep the industry alive with choices; encourage mainstream actors to participate in edgier material; bring in new blood to our film industry; and at the end, help in the profits for everyone involved. You will also discover how cool @johnlloydcruztm is in this film, promise. And what a gem of an actress we have with @planetumeboshi. So I appeal to the real movers and shakers of this film festival - the audience - to make watching Honor Thy Father a must-do before the holidays end. You will not just be helping the guys who made the film out; you will also be rewarding yourselves, I guarantee. #LetThemHaveTheirAwards #LetsSpreadThisFilmLikeWildfire #LetTheChristmasSpiritTakeOver

Caption from @iamangelicap's Instagram: Repost from @heneral.dizon using @RepostRegramApp - I've heard many people say it: The annual Metro Manila Film Festival is an excuse to churn out money-making movies that elicit laughs, kilig, or maligno/multo-induced fear. It's the most wonderful time of the year daw. You can't make anything too "serious." Avoid releasing anything that unsettles viewers and makes them think. Give the people a story with socio-political undertones and you're guaranteed to have your labor of love pulled out of cinemas not even two days into the game. (Exhibit A: Thy Womb) But I'm an optimist: I had high hopes for #MMFF2015. Wow, may @tonet_jadaone! May @dan_villegas! Yes! I was also very excited to watch #HonorThyFather originally titled "Con-Man" because, honestly, Erik Matti and John Lloyd Cruz. The success of #HeneralLuna gave me hope that maybe, just maybe, we'd actually give this one a chance. But today, shady people announced that the film is disqualified from the best picture category; worse, it's being pulled out of cinemas. I just watched it and let me tell you how I felt. I sat inside the cold cinema 6 of SM Mall of Asia feeling afraid. Walang #hugot dito, walang nakakatawa, walang happy ending. Ang makikita ko dito, mga eksena sa totoong buhay na hindi madalas pinapakita sa pelikula kasi ayaw nating harapin: desperation, death, greed, decay. I want you to enter the cinema without expectations. Allow yourself to be surprised. Because I believe that's what film festivals are supposed to accomplish: To give viewers like us something we didn't know we needed.

At the end of her Honor Thy Father-related IG spree, Angelica posted a photo of Lloydie’s beaten up face, a still from the movie.

Kung black and blue ka, ako makulay,,, dahil sayo.

While things are not shaping up well for the film MMFF-wise, we’re on the bandwagon of people saying that the movie truly is a landmark film. It’s okay, Angelica P, this film’s too good for a just local award, anyway.
