How This Fast Fashion Label Keeps Getting Away with Copying Accusations

The Internet has drawn a bit of its attention away from that Taylor-Kimye drama as Zara comes under fire for copying an indie artist’s work…and not apologizing for it.

Tuesday Bassen, an artist based in LA posted photos of her own designs side by side creations from the Spanish label. The label does the right thing by responding to the complaint sent by Tuesday, only to admit they did copy her work but don’t really care about it since she doesn’t really have enough followers for her designs to be recognized by a lot of people.

I’ve been pretty quiet about this, until now. Over the past year, @zara has been copying my artwork (thanks to all that have tipped me off–it’s been a lot of you). I had my lawyer contact Zara and they literally said I have no base because I’m an indie artist and they’re a major corporation and that not enough people even know about me for it to matter. I plan to further press charges, but even to have a lawyer get this LETTER has cost me $2k so far. 〰 It sucks and it’s super disheartening to have to spend basically all of my money, just to defend what is legally mine. ⚡️ EDIT: Some of you are asking how you can help. Repost and tag them, on Twitter, on Insta, on Facebook. I don’t want to have to burden any of you with the financial strain that comes with lawsuits.

In simple terms, she isn’t popular enough for Zara to give a damn about her complaints.

And is there any surprise that Zara brushes off some off the complaints? This isn’t the first time they have been confronted with copyright mishaps. A quick Google search will tell you how this isn’t the first time Zara has lifted designs from artist and how designer label Sibling also didn’t find the imitations of their designs flattering.

Oh, there’s even an issue of how one of their collections looks like Yeezy Season 2.

There’s definitely something suspicious going on around here. Do you think Zara was right to dismiss the artist’s claims because of her lack of influence? We’d love to hear you out in our comments section below or on our Twitter.
